Host South Korea defeated Thailand 3-0 to award the home fans a bronze in the Asian games soccer tournament Sunday afternoon.

The home squad, featuring five World Cup players, earlier suffered a disappointing 5-3 loss to defending champions Iran in the penalty shootout on Thursday.

The World Cup semi-finalists, who were the hot favorite of the title, exerted all their efforts in the clash for the bronze, making it anything but boring.

Defender Park Dong-hyuk opened the scoring in the 15th minute from a corner kick off forward Lee Chun-soo, feeding thousands of "red devils" after an unexpected knock-out in the semifinal.

Forward Lee doubled the lead in the 63rd minute with a nice cross from midfilder Choi Tae-uk and one minute later Choi scored the third goal for the home side to seal the victory over Thailand.

"Although they failed to win the gold, we still believe them and support them for ever. We believe that South Korea are the best in Asia," said Miss Lee, one of the thousands home fans after the match.
