Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi on Sunday condemned Saturday's terrorist bombings on the Indonesian island Bali which left at least 182 dead and more than 280 injured.
In a letter offering his condolences to Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri, Ciampi said the bomb attacks were a "grave act of terrorism" that had filled him with "horror and outrage."
"This appalling attack, which has thrown Indonesia into mourning, confirms the need to continue the common fight against terrorism until it is defeated," Ciampi said.
He said Italy's sympathies were with the families of the dead and injured, underscoring the "strong ties of friendship" between Italy and Indonesia.
A total of three bombs went off almost simultaneously late Saturday night in Bali, a tourist resort. Two bombs tore through one of the most popular nightspots on Bali's Kuta Beach while a third went off in nearby Sanur not far from a US consulate.
The Italian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that no Italians are believed to be among the dead on Saturday night's devastating bomb attacks on the Indonesian island of Bali.
The ministry said that six Italians had been injured but stressed that their injuries were minor and that they had all beenquickly discharged from hospital.
The Ministry condemned the attacks and said it was following developments closely.
