Four Nations Clinch Golds at Asiad Karatedo Last Day Rivalries

Capping two days of fierce fighting,four countries Saturday grabbed one gold each at the Busan Asian Games karatedo competitions, which produced a total of 11 golds.

P. Ramasami of Malaysia beat Otabek Kasimov of Uzbekistan to clinch the mens' kumite 55kg division title. Maulidin Bambang of Indonesia and Tran Nguyen Pham of Vietnam shared the bronze in thedivision.

In the men's kumite 60kg class, Japanese Kenichi Imai beat Iran's Hossein Rouhani to win the gold. The bronze went to Llkhom Larimov of Uzbekistan and Husin Alqattan of Kuwait.

M. Hassan Basri of Indonesia beat Mehdi Amouzadeh to grab the men's kumite 65kg gold. Chih Kang Shao of Chinese Taipei and NayefAlmutairik of Kuwait shared the bronze.

In the men's kumite 70kg category, Alireza Katiraei of Iran beat Shattyk Khajimukhanov of Kazakhstan to claim the gold. The bronze went to Magid Radwan A Adwan of Qatar and Hsiang Ming Hsu of Chinese Taipei.

On last Friday when competitions of the sport at Busan Asian Games reeled off, Japan and Vietnam shared lead with two karatedo gold medals respectively .

The fierce fighting also saw diversified gold winners on the first day, from west Asian nations of Kuwait and Iran to SoutheastAsian country Malaysia, in three events of the total seven.

For the first time in Asian Games history, individual kumite and kata for both men and women were held in karatedo competition,with nine golds in kumite rivalries and two in kata.

In a kumite bout, the objective is outfighting and outclassing the opponent, since style counts in every match. The action is limited to three minutes for men and two minutes for women.

The kata competition is oriented around a series of karatedo moves strung together in a traditional sequence.
