A top aide to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat said on Saturday that Arafat would be able to form a new cabinet of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) within 10 days.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh told reporters that Arafat resumed his intensive contacts and meetings with many Palestinian political figures and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee.
These contacts and meetings are aimed at exchanging views with all kinds of Palestinian figures in relation to forming a new Palestinian government that is expected to be announced after 10 days, said Abu Rudeineh.
The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) accepted last week an appeal presented by Arafat to give him more time to form a new cabinet after the previous one resigned on Sept. 11 to avoid a no-confidence vote by PLC members.
There will be new faces in the government and its goals would concentrate on ending the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories, prepare for the elections and continue reforms, said Abu Rudeineh.
He called upon the Quartet Committee, comprising the United States, Russia, European Union and United Nations and scheduled to meet on Wednesday in Paris, to help form the new government and enable it to fully carry out its duties.
There must be serious and clear plans and a mechanism for the Quartet Committee to push forward the stalled peace process in the Middle East, said Abu Rudeineh.
