Late Chinese leader's 100th Birth Anniversary Marked at Beijing Forum
The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held a forum at the Grand Hall of the People in Beijing Friday to mark the centenary anniversary of the birth of Peng Zhen, a late great Chinese proletarian revolutionary.

Party General Secretary and Chinese President Jiang Zemin and other Party and government leaders, including Li Peng, Hu Jintao and Wei Jianxing, attended the forum.
Jiang delivered a major speech, in which he cited Peng Zhen as a great proletarian revolutionary, an eminent statesman, a staunch Marxist, an outstanding Party and state leader, as well as a founder of China's social legal system.
After recalling Peng's contributions to the Chinese people's cause of nationwide liberation and socialism, Jiang praised his utter devotion to Communism, his loyalty to the CPC and the Chinese people, and his boldness, farsightedness and capability in handling complex, knotty problems, as well as his optimism and confidence in the Party's cause.
A modern socialist China that was prosperous, strong, democratic and culturally-advanced and a rejuvenation of the nation have long been the aspiration of the Chinese revolutionaries, he noted.
Meanwhile, Jiang called on participants to unite and to carry forward the great cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
