He expressed the hope that the general elections scheduled on Thursday would usher in an era of genuine and sustainable democracy after experiencing eleven years of sham democracy duringthe tenure of governments of the past.
General Pervez Musharraf said the present government has followed all democratic means and provided an enabling environmentfor the establishment of a genuine democratic order in the country.
He explained that it was not the duty of the government but a right of the people of Pakistan to elect their representatives through ballot in the general elections.
He urged the people to cast their vote for honest, dedicated and capable people. He appealed to the people to come out and casttheir vote without any fear as the government has made all arrangements for the security.
He stressed the need for creating an atmosphere of new political culture in Pakistan based on understanding, harmony and co-existence.
The president said with Thursday's elections he would be fulfilling another promise he had made to the nation of bringing in a true and lasting democracy in the country.
As for political restructuring, the President said the real success and crowning of reforms would be introduction of lasting democracy in the country. He said the government introduced the genuine democracy with local governments by empowering the people in political, administrative and financial matters.
He said there would be no compromise on the security, solidarity and stability of the country and running of a corruption-free government.
He expressed the confidence that the period of mis-governance will not return and the present culture of transparency will continue.
