Beijing, HKSAR to Cooperate on Over 260 Projects

Beijing will launch 261 economic and trade-related cooperative projects, with a total investment of20.768 billion US dollars, during the sixth Beijing-Hong Kong economic cooperation fair, set to begin Oct. 29 in Hong Kong.

Beijing will launch 261 economic and trade-related cooperative projects, with a total investment of20.768 billion US dollars, during the sixth Beijing-Hong Kong economic cooperation fair, set to begin Oct. 29 in Hong Kong.

According to an official with the Beijing municipal development planning commission, 12 of these projects, involving 2.69 billion US dollars, concern gymnasium facilities for the 2008 Olympic Games.

The cooperation includes 73 real estate development projects with an investment of 6.23 billion US dollars, including the reconstruction of old, dilapidated houses and the building of office areas along financial streets. And 34 projects are for large shopping centers and other commercial installations, involving 6.91 billion US dollars.

Moreover, 3.62 billion US dollars will be used for 65 tourism projects, such as the development and rebuilding of tourist attractions. Fifty-two industrial and hi-tech projects and 17 agricultural projects will use respectively 600 and 400 million USdollars. Another eight are related to the construction of Beijing's satellite towns, involving 310 million US dollars.

Meanwhile, 20 seminars, forums and shows aiming to promote Beijing-Hong Kong exchanges will also be held during the two-day fair.

At the previous five fairs, Beijing and Hong Kong signed 231 cooperative projects on high-technology, industry, infrastructure, commerce, logistics, traveling and real estate, involving a total sum of 11.69 billion US dollars.
