China's Liu Xiang Grips Gold in 110m Hurdles at Asiad
Chinese Liu Xiang snatched the gold in the men's 110-meter hurdles event on Wednesday, the third day of the week-long athletics competition at the fortnight Asian Games.
Liu, 19, dashed to the finish in 13.27 seconds, exceeding the Asiad record of 13.30 seconds created by China's Li Tong in 1994.
Satoru Tanigawa from Japan timed 13.83 seconds to take the silver, while Park Tae-kyong from host South Korea seized the bronze at 13.89 seconds.
Liu created the Asian record 13.12 seconds this year in Lausanne, Switzerland.
"I am very happy to get the gold medal since this is my first Asian Games," Liu said.
His coach Sun Haiping said Liu was unrivaled in Asia.
Liu's result was not ideal because "he raised his hands to celebrate near the finish. This affected his speed," Sun added.
