China Clinches Asian Games Badminton Women's Team Gold
Defending champion China overcame the tough hosts South Korea on Tuesday to clinch the title of the Asian Games badminton women's team event.

China, who boast of players all within world top ten in both singles and doubles on their team, repeated the history of 1998 Bangkok Asiad title clash, beating South Korea 3-1.

World top singles Zhou Mi overcame South Korean ace Kim Kyeung-ran, ranked 11th, 11-9, 11-8.

The victory was made even sweeter to the Chinese by the fact that the 23-year-old shuttler had fell to the highest-ranked SouthKorean player in the final of the Uber Cup, a prestigious world team tournament, this May in Guangzhou, South China.

Gong Ruina, recent Indonesia Open winner, fared even better than her teammate when the world number 4 took the win over 19-year-old rookie Jun Jae-youn 11-7, 11-7.

World top doubles Huang Nanyan and Yang Wei, however, had a more difficult time against verterans Ra Kyung-min and Lee Kyung-won before they lost 11-5, 4-11 and 9-11.

The Chinese pair, who had a taste of bitter defeat against Ra and Lee during the Indonesia Open in August, were overtaken by thetenacious South Koreans after they squandered the lead and made mistakes during the play.

World number two doubles Gao Ling and Huang Sui, winner of Indonesia Open, wrapped up China's victory after they beat 13-ranked Lee Hyo-jung and Hwang Yu-mi 9-11, 11-2 and 11-8.

While Chinese women's team triumphed for the gold, their men's counterparts had to settle with a third-place finish as they lost to Indonesia 3-1 in a semifinal a day earlier.
