China's Tang Sets Women's Weightlifting World Records for Asiad Gold

Chinese strongwoman Tang Gonghong broke twice the world record in the clean and jerk en route to winning the women's over 75kg category weightlifting gold medal atthe 14th Asian Games on Tuesday.

China's Tang Sets Women's Weightlifting World Records for Asiad Gold
Chinese strongwoman Tang Gonghong broke twice the world record in the clean and jerk en route to winning the women's over 75kg category weightlifting gold medal atthe 14th Asian Games on Tuesday.

Tang, who snatched 120kgs to set up her leading place in the competitions, lifted a world record weight of 165.5kg in the second attempt in the jerk, surpassing the previous world record by 0.5kg.

The listed world mark of 165 was set by her teammate Ding Meiyuan at the Sydney Olympic Games.

In the third and final lift, Tang improved her weight to 167.5kg, and won the gold with a combined weight of 287.5kg.

Jang Mi-ran of South Korea, who snatched 117.5 and jerked 155, took the silver at 272.5 and Mun Kyung-ae, also from South Korea, had the bronze at 252.5, with 112.5 from snatch and 140 from jerk.
