Chinese women's volleyball team reached the final of the Asian games in Busan after crushing the Japanese side 3-0 on Monday.
The match turned out to be easier than previously expected by the Chinese coach Chen Zhonghe with his opponents scored as low as18, 11, 18 points in each set respectively.
China, the defending champion, has secured a berth into the final no matter it wins or losses to South Korea on Thursday in the last match of the preliminary round after defeating all the teams except South Korea during the last four days.
The top two finishers of the preliminary round are qualified toface each other again in the final on October 12. The results in preliminary round won't have any effect on the final match according to the regulation.
Zhao Ruirui, China's tallest blocker of 1.97 meters, contributed most with 20 points, followed by the Chinese powerful hitter Yang Hao who scored 10 points.
"It was totally beyound our expectation that Japanese team was in such a low morale", said Chen after the match. "We have been preparing this match against Japan for months because Japanese team has been traditionally recognized as mentally strong."
Chen said it was highly likely that China would meet South Korea in the final ignoring the fact that South Korea has to play Chinese Taipei before it faces China on Thursday in the last matchof the preliminary round. In theory, South Koreans could miss the final if they lose to Chinese Taipei and China both.
But the possibility had been ruled out by the Chinese coach: "Ithink South Koreans are very strong. We must prepared ourselves ready to meet them in the final."
Japan will face Chinese Taipei to defend its bronze medal won at last Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand, four years ago.
