Chen Shih-wei of Chinese Taipei Wins Men's Double-trap

Chen Shih-wei of Chinese Taipei won the shoot-off to take the men's double trap individual gold medal at the Asian Games Saturday.

Chen Shih-wei of Chinese Taipei won the shoot-off to take the men's double trap individual gold medal at the Asian Games Saturday.

Chen and South Korean Jung Yoon-Kyun, both hit 141 targets in the qualification and scored 46 hits in the final for 187-all.

Shih Wei-tin, also from Chinese Taipei, scored a nearly perfect 49 in the final for a total of 187 hits to make him become another gold medal contender.

Chen, hit both clay-pigeons in the three-man shoot-off, claimed the champion, while Shih Wei-tin defeated Jung in the second round to take the silver medal.

"I am satisfied with my performance today and so glad to win the gold medal," said Chen, "I had prepared a lot before the Games and it gave me much confidence in the final, especially in the shoot-off, in which we are on the same position again."

Chen Moo-sen, the coach of Chen Shih-wei, said that the gold medal is a historical breakthrough for Chinese Taipei.

"We have never won a gold medal in the men's double-trap event in the international shooting tournaments. This one is the first for Chinese Taipei," said Chen Moo-sen.

The team's gold medal of this event went to South Korea. The host country trio Lee Sang-hak, Kang Hyung-chul and Lee Young-hoon totalled 418 hits in the qualification to beat China's 413 by Hu Binyuan, Li Bo and Li Shuangchun. Chinese Taipei grabbed the team bronze with 409 hits.
