The Chinese paddlers, both men and women, entered the last eight of the 14th Asian Gamestable tennis team competition Thursday afternoon after beating Qatar and South Korea respectively.

Both teams have taken the top place in their preliminary groups.

Meanwhile, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Chinese Hong Kong, DPR Korea, Vietnam, Qatar and Japan also made the men's team quarterfinals, as Japan, Singapore, DPR Korea, Chinese Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, South Korea and Uzbekistan would play in the women's quarterfinals.

The fixtures for the quarterfinals, which will begin shortly inthe Dongcheon Gymnasium of Ulsan, were China vs Japan, Vietnam vs Chinese Hong Kong, South Korea vs Qatar and DPR Korea vs Chinese Taipei on the men's side, and China vs Chinese Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei vs Singapore, DPR Korea vs South Korea and Uzbekistan vs Japan on the women's side.

China, resting its top players Wang Nan and Niu Jianfeng for the imminent quarterfinals and sending out three young players NiuJianfeng, Li Nan and Guo Yan instead, overcame the South Koreans 3-0 in the last round of the Group A preliminary matches.

The three young players stood the great pressure from a wild South Korean home audience and scored a not so easy victory against the tenacious hosts.

The Chinese men, however, had found it too easy to squash the Qatar team 3-0. World No.1 Wang Liqin spearheaded his team, which also sent out veteran Ma Lin and young gun Liu Guozheng.
