Twenty-five people have been killed and 54 others injured in a fresh bout of violence in India-controlled Kashmir since Tuesday night, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported on Wednesday.
Two passengers were killed and 21 others injured in a powerful explosion inside a bus at 06:25 a.m. (0005 GMT), 10 minutes after it left Jammu, a major city in south Kashmir.
An official in the area said that the explosive device was kepton its fuel tank, which caught fire soon after the explosion and the bus was totally charred.
It was suspected that the bomb with a timing device might have been planted before the bus left Jammu.
At 8:00 a.m. local time (0230 GMT) on Wednesday, militants triggered an improved explosive device near Tral town in Pulwama district, killing five soldiers of India Border Security Force on the spot and wounding another, the spokesman said.
This is the second attack on Indian border security troops in as many days. On Tuesday evening, seven soldiers died in an explosion in Awantipora of the same district.
In another incident, three workers of the ruling National Conference party in Indian-controlled Kashmir were killed allegedly by Islamic militants in a village in Kupwara late on Tuesday night.
However, PTI reported earlier that residents of the village said the three were called to a security camp on Tuesday night andmight have been killed by the security force.
Residents took out a massive protest demonstration due to the rumor and clashed with the police which left 19 people, including seven policemen, injured, PTI added.
According to the police, five militants were killed in two encounters in another border district of Poonch on Tuesday night.
Indian security forces also foiled an infiltration bid Tuesday night when they killed two ultras who were trying to sneak into the Indian side in Kupwara, the police spokesman said, adding that two more militants were shot dead during search operations in the area.
Militants also shot dead a policeman and wounded three of his colleagues in an ambush in Doda district.
Militants made three strikes in Doda on Wednesday, killing three people, including a soldier, the spokesman said.
As many as 18 people were reportedly killed on Tuesday when the third of the four-phase elections was held in four border districts in India-controlled part of the valley.
