Nissan Motor Co. plans to begin export in 2004 of pickup trucks to be produced at a joint venture it will shortly set up in China with major Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corp..
The trucks will be exported to such markets as Southeast Asia and Africa, Nissan's Managing Director Katsumi Nakamura said Wednesday.
Nissan last month announced an agreement with Dongfeng Motor to form a fifty-fifty joint venture to produce passenger cars as well as trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles in China. The deal involves Nissan's investment of some 120 billion yen (about one billion US dollars) within a year.
Nakamura also said Nissan will unify its three sales routes in China into one in order to create a local network of around 300 outlets in 2006, a threefold increase from the current scale.
