Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stressed on Wednesday that there is no hope for the Arabs to sign apeace treaty with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stressed on Wednesday that there is no hope for the Arabs to sign a peace treaty with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
"If Israel continues its aggressive policy against the Palestinians, the Mideast situation would be explosive, and no one can guarantee peace and security in the region," Mubarak said on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the October War victories.
"The Mideast peace process has been backtracked due to brutal policies pursued by Sharon," he said, while decrying Israel for not honoring signed agreements with the Palestinians.
"The Israeli assassination of Palestinian activists, the destruction of houses and trees as well as its siege of Palestinian towns will bring about catastrophic aftermath, and therefore lead to more violence and weaken the call of peace," he said.
"If Israel thinks that its current policy would bring about security for the Israelis, it will make a big mistake," he stressed.
Mubarak also called on the international community, especially the United States, to pressure Israel to abandon its aggressive policies detrimental to the peace process and work for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
