A software college opened recently at China's prestigious Shandong University under the sponsorship of US microprocessor giant IBM, one more step on the rapidly lengthening path of the company's cooperation with Chinese universities.
Fan Yu, vice president of IBM China Co. Ltd said IBM has co-operated with Shandong University in training software professors and designing curriculum for two years already.
IBM also helped the university set up a local network during that time, he said.
Now Shandong University and IBM have signed a software education cooperation pact in a bid to train more qualified and comprehensive software professionals.
In the newly-established college, the two sides will cooperate by jointly designing curriculum, compiling teaching material, organizing software research and development, carrying out academic communication and offering technological service.
Since 1995, IBM has established ties with more than 40 Chinese universities for information technology development.
