Chinese swimmer Xu Yanwei won the women's 100-meter freestyle in 54.92 seconds at the Asian Games Wednesday evening.
Yang Yu of China and Tomoko Nagai of Japan shared the silver asboth hit home in 55.51 seconds.
The race was gripping at the first lap but Xu clinched her spearhead till the line from the turn.
It was the second gold taken by Xu as she won the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay Tuesday, teamed with Zhu Yingwen, Tang Jingzhi and Yang Yu, and got a silver in Monday's 200-meter freestyle individual.
"I am confident to have five Asian Games champions in my grasp.I moved closer to my goal now after my 100m victory," said Xu. "Today's result is not my personal-best but very close to the one Iset in the national championships in April."
Xu, two-time bronze medalist in 50m and 100m freestyle in the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Moscow, Russia last April, competed in Sydney Olympic Games but returned home empty-handed for lack of experience and full of nerves.
"I was nervous today before the competition because it is a big event which is held only every four years just like the Olympic Games. But I overcame my weakness as soon as I got into the water."
With the spiky hairstyle which cut before coming to Busan, Xu looked like a boy and wanted a new appearance in the regional sports gala.
"I am looking forward to win a world title in the international event. The World Championships to be held next year in Barcelona, Spain, will be a good chance for me. I am ready," said the 18-year-old Xu.
