With an overwhelming leads in both the snatch and clean and jerk, China's strongwoman Zhou Yan Wednesday hoisted a total of 220kg, collecting the weightlifting gold in the women's 58kg category.

Zhou Yan, a Busan Asiad favorite, showed her dominating prowess from her snatch in which she landed 95kg.

She cruised through the first snatch attempt by lifting the 95kg, heavier than any other lifters' final snatch in the competition. But the second and third attempts to the 100kg failed her.

In the clean and jerk, she easily lifted 122.5kg in the first attempt and 125kg in the second. She looked poised to break a the world record of 133kg when she raised the 133.5kg bar to her chest, but she failed to hoist it above her head.

"I'm satisfied with my performance today," Zhou told reporters, adding "I like the sport."

The 18-year-old lifter from China's south province of Hunan set a world record of 132.5kg in clean and jerk at the world junior championships in April this year. But the mark was later eclipsed by her teammate Sun Caiyan with a lift of 133kg.

The pale and quite strongwoman was the last lifter to show up due to her heaviest starting-up barbell weight in the Pukyong National University Gymnasium, where spectators and South Korean cheer squads applauded this Chinese girl.

During the clean and jerk competition, President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah of the Olympic Council of Asia paid his visit to the strongwomen's arena.

Fahad later received a gold award from the Asian Weightlifting Federation for his support to the sport.

The Chinese women lifters, sweeping seven golds in the last 13th Asian Games in 1998 in Bangkok with a total of 13 world records broken for 17 times, have expect to repeat repeat their dominance of the sport this time.
