Visiting Kuwaiti Defense Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak al-Hamad al-Sabah said here on Tuesday Kuwait is opposed to any unilateral strike against Iraq and will not allowits territory to be used as a launch pad without a UN resolution.
Addressing at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Ali Shamkhani, Sheikh Jaber, however, said Kuwait will take part in any international action against Iraq if approved by the UN security council.
On the presence of US troops in Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber explained that they have come to Kuwait for military exercise and will leave the country thereafter.
For his part, Shamkhani said Iran has voiced opposition to any unilateral US action against Iraq and has called on the Iraqi government to fully comply with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and admit UN arms inspectors back into the country.
Iran and Kuwait are exposed to the same threat, said he, adding that the two countries are following the strategy of confidence building in the region as the best way to ease tension.
Shamkhani also said Iran is well prepared to minimize the consequences of possible US attacks on Iraq on its borders.
