Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) noted Tuesday that Macao's economy has gained new growth momentum but the recovery cannot stay away from support from the central government and cooperation with the country's interior.

Addressing a grand reception by the SAR government to celebrate the National Day, Edmund Ho pointed out that Macao is conducting more wide-ranging cooperation with the inland when it opens to the outside world. "Macao should develop with the motherland as a strong backing and join hands with the inland to achieve sustained growth."

Macao's economic recovery is just starting, the chief executive said, citing that unemployment stains cannot be eased in the short-term. "We should work hard and overcome various difficulties to create an even brighter future for the SAR," he added.

The principles of "one country, two systems", "Macao people governing Macao" and a high degree of autonomy are well implemented in Macao and local residents should keep up with the tradition of patriotism, he said.

The chief executive also noted that the motherland has achieved great success over the past 53 years and Macao's development is part of that of the Chinese nation.
