Chinese women breaststroker Qi Hui proved she is an all-around swimmer by winning the 200 meters individual medley event and a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Asian Games Tuesday.

In the 200m medley, Qi surged ahead in breaststroke, her speciality, to surpass her teammate Zhou Yafei after the 100m mark and kept the lead to touch home first in a time of two minutes 13.94 seconds.

Zhou came second in 2:14.67 and Maiko Fujino from Japan third in 2:16.37, respectively.

Qi, world record holder in the 200m breaststroke, said: "This gold medal is within my reach. I am not surprised with the title but not satisfied with my result. I should go faster than this."

Qi, who won an unexpected silver medal at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan last year in 2:12.46, later finished the runner-up in the 100m breaststroke behind her teammate Luo Xuejuan in 1:08.35.

"I was relaxed to compete in the 100m breaststroke even though it was very close to my previous event, because I believed in Luo Luo (Luo's nickname). It is no doubt that she can win the title."

Qi said she was exhausted after her 100m breaststroke because the two events she took part in were so close.

"I tried my best in the two events and now feel very tired," said the 17-year-old who will take part in the 200m breaststroke on October 3 and 400m individual medley on the last day of the swimming competition on October 6.
