The San Antonio Spurs also has showed interest in a trade involving Chinese center Menk Bateer, Bateer's Chinese agent Xia Song said Tuesday in Beijing.

"I phoned the Spurs this morning. They said they had made their request for Bateer to the Pistons," Xia said on Tuesday.

Reports said Denver Nuggets would trade the Chinese center, along with Don Reid and a draft pick for Rodney White from the Detroit Pistons.

The trade is expected to be announced later today, Xia revealed.

"Bateer had a wonderful time in Denver last season. I think Denver is a good place for him," Xia said.

"I'm not quite sure whether Pistons really need Bateer or not, because they already have Ben Wallace, Clifford Robinson and Zeljko Rebrace under the basket."

Bateer, who joined the Nuggets midway last season from the Beijing Ducks, had a 1+1 contract with the Nuggets, which means he would receive a 51.2-million U.S.dollar contract for one year from the Nuggets automatically if he is not to be traded this season.

"Everybody knows Bateer is a good center, and he can do lots of things in the paint," Xia added.

"I don't care where he plays, San Antonio or Detroit. The most important part is that he can get a contract right after the trade."

Bateer averaged 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds in 27 games for Denver.
