At least two people were killed and 50 others wounded Monday in an attack on a Greyhound bus, which overturned off a highway in the US western state of California after a passenger slashed the throat of the driver, local police said.
The attack took place near Coalinga, about 30 miles (48 km) west of Fresno, northern California, when the Greyhound bus traveling on the Interstate 5th highway overturned and rolled over on its side into a field, according to Jeff Johnson of the Fresno County Sheriff's Department.
At least two people, including the bus driver, died and 50 others were wounded in the incident, Johnson said.
The attacker, possibly aided by an accomplice, was arrested. However, the motive for the attack remained unknown. "This was not an accident," Johnson added.
The Interstate 5th highway was closed to northbound traffic late Monday night as police launched an investigation.
This was the second Greyhound bus attack since Oct. 3 last year, when a passenger on a Greyhound bus in Tennessee cut the driver's throat, causing a crash that killed seven of the 40 people aboard.
