US aircraft on Thursday used precision guided weapons to bomb Iraqi defense facilities at two locations in southern Iraq, the US Central Command said Friday.
The strikes were carried out separately at Qalat Sikur, 130 miles (about 208 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad, and at Tallil, 170 miles (about 272 kilometers) southeast of the Iraqi capital, the Central Command said.
It said the strikes were triggered by "hostile acts" from Iraqidefense forces against coalition aircraft patrolling "no-fly" zones in Iraq.
The Central Command is based in Tampa, Florida, and is responsible for US military operation in the Gulf region.
The latest attacks have brought the total number of coalition strikes against Iraq since the beginning of this year to at least 40.
