Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak haswarned the United States and Israel not to "explode" the entire Mideast region and beyond.
Speaking to reporters aboard his plane following a short visit to Saudi Arabia Wednesday evening, Mubarak said the danger "lies in the worsening situation in the Palestinian lands and a possible US war against Iraq," Egypt's official MENA news agency reported on Thursday.
"War is a great catastrophe and the eruption of such a war not only affects the Mideast region or the Arabs alone, but also the entire world," he said.
During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Mubarak held talks with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul-Aziz to seek a unified Arab stance on the worsening situation in the Palestinian lands and a possible US war against Iraq.
"I am still warning against such kind of military operations, especially those which affect civilians, destroy their homes and create hatred in hearts and hotbeds of terrorism in all countries. This includes countries which plan wars ... I mean the United States itself," Mubarak said.
"The world public opinion which objects to the policy of war is increasing, provided that we refrain from giving any justifications to war mongers and abide by the international legitimacy," he added.
Mubarak has also called on Israel and Iraq to honor UN Security Council resolutions.
Mubarak's visit to Saudi Arabia came at a time when Israel has defied Tuesday's UN Security Council resolution, which calls on Israel to lift the siege on Arafat's Ramallah headquarters and withdraw from the Palestinian lands.
Israel has besieged Arafat into his compound in the West Bank city of Ramallah since last Thursday, saying the siege will not be lifted until 19 wanted Palestinians holed up inside the compound surrender.
