The Chinese rowers will strike for a clean-sweep in the upcoming 14th Asian Games slated on September29 to October 14, said a top Chinese rowing official on Wednesday.

"The first thing we have to do is checking the equipment. Sooner after we finish it, our rowers will begin their training," said Peng Xiji, head coach of the Chinese rowing team who arrived at the Gimhae Internation Airport on Wednesday.

The Chinese rowers enjoyed their dominance in Asia for a long time and even registered a clean-sweep of all 11 gold medals from the Bangkok Asian Games four years ago.

Team manager Wei Di said China will strive for more than 10 gold medals in the upcoming Games where the Japanese entries in the men's lightweight competitions will pose as the biggest threats.

"No tough challenges are expected in the women's competitions, but it's a little bit different in the men's events," said the manager.

"Japan is staging its threats to China, especially in the men's lightweight events. But we are striving for no less than one gold from the three lightweight disciplines. Zhu Zhifu is our hope for that gold medal.

"Hosts South Korea is not familiar for us. They recruited some foreign coaches but were absent in the international tournaments recently.

"Anyway, we are confident enough that our rowers will enjoy their great advantages in the upcoming Asiad," Wei said.
