Musharraf Says Kashmiris Reject Valley Polls
Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf said Monday that the Kashmiri people have rejected the election in the Indian-controlled Kashmir with marginal turnout.
Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf said Monday that the Kashmiri people have rejected the election in the Indian-controlled Kashmir with marginal turnout.
While laying the foundation stone of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, the president told newsmen "the turnout in the first phase of elections in the occupied Kashmir was from 2 percent to 10 percent only," saying "claims to the contrary by the Indian officials were total lies".
Asked about Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's refusal to enter into dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the outstanding issues including Kashmir and to lower tension on the borders, Musharraf said "Pakistan has no problem and difficulty if New Delhi is not ready for talks".
Earlier, the president said his government intends to improve the literacy level, increase enrollment in primary and higher education and improve Madrasa (Islamic Academy) education.
He said 800 million US dollars of foreign funds have been promised to Pakistan for the coming three years in the field of education.
