Iraqi FM Arrives in Cairo with Saddam's Message
Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri arrived in Cairo Monday evening to deliver a message from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri arrived in Cairo Monday evening to deliver a message from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Sabri said the message focuses on ways to promote Egyptian-Iraqi cooperation, especially at the current critical stage.
A number of Iraqi envoys will also visit several countries to deliver Saddam's messages, he disclosed, adding the United States is keen on adopting a new UN resolution on Iraq in an attempt to serve Israel's interests.
On Sept. 16, Iraq said it will allow UN weapons inspectors to return to Iraq unconditionally, a move which it said would preempt any possible US attack on Iraq.
However, the United States dismissed the Iraqi move as "a tactic that will fail," saying Washington will press for the adoption of anew UN resolution on Iraq which will contain tough terms.
The United States has been accusing Iraq of developing weapons of mass destruction to pose a threat to security of its neighboring countries, an allegation that has been denied by Iraq.
US President George W. Bush has threatened to use all tools at his disposal to topple Saddam.
