Nepali Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sher Bahadur Deuba told a visiting Chinese military delegation Thursday that Nepal is committed to maintaining and strengthening the centuries-old friendly relations with China.

Deuba said as Nepal values very much its friendly relations with China, that date back to hundreds of years ago, the Himalayan kingdom will firmly stick to the one-China policy and will not allow any anti-China activities to be conducted on Nepal's soil.

"Nepal will support China as ever at the international stage on all issues, including the issues of Tibet and human rights," the Nepali prime minister assured the Chinese delegation.

Deuba also expressed his gratitude for the assistance and support China has extended to Nepal for its economic development, especially in the fields of infrastructure, industry, health and hydropower.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Zou Gengren, head of the Military Delegation of the Lanzhou Military Region of China, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the assurance by the Nepali prime minister of consistent support to the one-China policy and the pledges of not allowing any anti-China activities to be conducted in Nepal.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and the late King Birendra reached a consensus in 1996 to build good-neighborly partnership that will be handed down from generation to generation, Zou noted, adding that his visit was in response to the consensus to further enhance the friendship between the two countries.

"In particular, our visit is aimed at further strengthening the good relations between the armies of the two countries, especially promoting the relations between the Royal Nepal Army and China's Lanzhou Military Region," he added.

Zou voiced his confidence that the good relations and cooperation between the Nepali army and the Lanzhou Military Region that adjoins Nepal will contribute to maintaining peace and stability of the bordering areas.

The seven-member Chinese military delegation arrived here Sunday on a six-day goodwill visit to Nepal at the invitation of the Royal Nepal Army.
