China welcomes the preliminary talks on arrangements of arms inspection held between the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and Iraq, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday.
Spokesman Kong Quan made the remark when asked to comment on the contacts between the UNMOVIC and Iraqi officials in New York at a regular press conference.
Kong said such talks would help UN arms inspectors to return to work in Iraq at an early date and create favorable conditions for the political and peaceful settlement of the Iraq issue.
Kong expressed hope that the next round of talks between the two sides could achieve expected results.
