Chinese, Togolese Swap Greetings on Anniversary of Ties
Chinese and Togolese leaders have exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their two nations' diplomatic relations which falls on Thursday.
Chinese and Togolese leaders have exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their two nations' diplomatic relations which falls on Thursday.
In a message to his Togolese counterpart, Gnassingbe Eyadema, dated on Wednesday, Chinese President Jiang Zemin said China and Togo have enjoyed a traditional friendship.
"Over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two peoples have enjoyed mutual respect, mutual understanding and mutual trust in the spirit of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence," said Jiang.
The two countries have carried out sincere and fruitful cooperation in various fields and supported each other in international affairs, he said.
Jiang said that in the new century, China is willing to join hands with Togo to strengthen bilateral trust and friendship and to further expand cooperation.
In his message to Jiang, Eyadema expressed his appreciation for China's friendly and cooperative ties with Togo. He said China has long been supporting the people of developing countries and has extended precious assistance to the Togolese people to help them realize sustainable development.
The Togolese president believed that Chinese-Togolese cooperation will be further consolidated and that his country will continue to receive Chinese support for its economic development policies.
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his Togolese counterpart, Koffi Panou, also exchanged messages on the occasion.
