Beijing municipal government has made efforts to improve its legal environment since China's WTO entry, and is making the city more open and integrated with the global economy, Beijing Mayor Liu Qi said Wednesday.
Liu told a reception for overseas delegates to a symposium on legal services in the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which opened in Beijing Wednesday, that it was of great importance for representatives of international legal circles to gather here and discuss cooperation and exchanges of legal services between different countries.
There were many differences in the legal systems of different countries, due to the various cultural and historical backgrounds of each country, said Liu, noting that the differences would diminish as communications between international legal circles increased.
Liu said Beijing had been working to streamline all the local rules, governmental regulations, documents and policies since China became a WTO member, and the legal environment of Beijing had been improved.
Liu hoped the international legal circles could offer more advice on the development of Beijing, expressing his belief that the economy and urban construction of Beijing would progress with the help of international experts.
