All countries, including China, benefited from having internationally recognized laws and legal systems for trade, an international symposium on the World Trade Organization (WTO) and legal services heard Wednesday in Beijing.

During the symposium co-sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Justice and All China Lawyers' Association, Vice-Minister of Justice Duan Zhengkun said China's construction of a legal system entered a new historical era after accession to the WTO.

China's economic legislation, in particular the laws and regulations governing foreign trade, must conform to the rules of the WTO, he said.

In accordance with principles of legal unity, non-discrimination and transparency, China was perfecting a system of economic laws and regulations conforming to both WTO rules and China's national conditions, he said.

Italian Minister of Justice Roberto Castelli said with China's accession, the WTO truly became a global trade body and entry also boosted China's legal modernization process.

In the process of economic globalization, the diversity and individuality of different countries should be respected, he said.

Pierre Bedier, secretary of state in charge of the Programs of Justice in the Ministry of Justice of France, said the establishment of the WTO meant all members recognized common legal standards in dealing with international economic relations.

China's entry into the WTO and the opening-up of the service industry would contribute to the prosperity of China's legal service market, he said.

Kenyan Attorney General Amos Wako said in the process of economic globalization, both developed and developing countries should enjoy the same rights in making new global rules.
