Colombian Journalist Killed by Unknown Gunmen

Unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot and killed a television reporter along with a lawyer while they were driving in Colombia's southwestern city of Cali, the police confirmed on Tuesday.

Unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot and killed a television reporter along with a lawyer while they were driving in Colombia's southwestern city of Cali, the police confirmed on Tuesday.

Americo Viafara Valencia, 39, director of Telepacifico TV channel's "Litoral Pacifico" program, and lawyer Ruben Dario Cardona were killed in the attack late Monday, the police said.

A third person in the car, Manuel Alberto Sevillano, was wounded, the police said.

Recent statistics from a government human rights office show that a total of 141 journalists have been killed in Colombia because of their work between 1977 and July 2002.
