Wang Tso-yung, former president of Taiwan "Control Yuan" lately released a fiery article on the paper "United Daily" titled "Whoever Brings China Strength and Prosperity Will Have My Support" in which he said that China is my motherland - the land of my parents. I'll stand by and accept whoever brings China strength and prosperity.
"Since Annette Lu crowing with Lee Teng-hui showed up to the hilt all her adamancy questioning why a bigoted former anti-Communist person has turned pro-Communist, charging nonlocals on politically riding on walls not echoing their Taiwan independence, I have to give my views now..
"Through my life I have tried to keep myself away from all tussles about politics, ideologies, partisanship, sectarian communal feelings and such ties as of those with Hubei Provincials and kinship get-together of the Wangs. But I have cherished a strong national feeling for the motherland: I'm Chinese. China including the mainland and Taiwan is my motherland. Hubei is my native province, which I hold dear and the land of China. I love my people, the whole of China, including Taiwan and all those who are living in Taiwan because it is an inalienable part of China. I am a member of the Kuomintang but when I criticize it I'll be in no way less sharp than a Democratic Progressive Party member.
"China is my motherland, all Chinese nationals are my compatriots, not to say Taiwan Province and those living in Taiwan. I am opposed to any "Taiwan independence" party because they do not recognize themselves as Chinese though they are Chinese. It's clear Taiwan is China's province but they do not recognize the fact. I fully agree with Deng Xiaoping, a good cat whether white or black must be able to catch mice. I would also go further, I don't want a "Japan rat" or a Taiwan-fostered "Japan rat". Whoever can make China prosperous and modernize it or brings its strength and prosperity, guarantee people a secure happy life and put the Chinese people on their feet in the world I'll stand by and accept him. Are these the goals towards which the Communists on the Chinese mainland are advancing and have made commendable and acceptable successes? My answer is definite."
Furthermore, Wang told, "last year, in bright clear autumn days, "after being away over 50 years on Taiwan island and now becoming senile at the threshold of Hell, I went on a visit to the mainland with my kids. Soon getting off at Beijing Airport, the moment my two feet touched on the soil, I was totally beside myself, tearing welling up in my eyes, all the way out of the airport.
"Because of poor health I didn't go to see in person too many places of interest. But on my insistence I went on a visit to the Great Wall. To me, the Great Wall is not simply a historical relic but an eternal symbol routing alien invaders, fighting for national survival and humiliation imposed from abroad. At last I climbed up onto the Great Wall, leaning and groping long on the walls. I gazed far into the vast beautiful land on the two sides of the Great Wall and beyond. Though I couldn't pay my respects to battlefields from history yet I have still fulfilled my decades-old dream.
"I visited Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai and got back to Taibei via Hong Kong. Compared with all left in my mind's eye of 50 years past I can only find a term now "complete change made" in what I had seen all the way home on the mainland. All buildings, installations and public facilities in cities have been launched on a scale true to the name of great modern China and these have all been under fast construction, not to say I'm highly excited with all these. I had met with some ranking Communist officials and to my surprise was the their demeanor and conduct of affairs drawing respect. The achievements they have made and future plans \they are making give me the impression that a time bringing people back to the powerful Tang Dynasty is pretty near and assured and this is totally different from what is being witnessed in Taiwan," He said.
Finally, Wang with the article said, "I are well familiar with the Chinese history. I know too many difficulties may come across on the mainland and if these not properly handled unexpected setbacks may be met. But I fully know these would not stop the advance of this great force of today's China. Amazing economic successes will be made on the mainland and by 2050 China will become one of the world strongest. There will see the genuine rise of the Chinese nation truly rising to their feet. I must repeat China is my motherland, homeland of my parents and I'll accept and stand by whoever can put China on its feet and build it into a modern prosperous world power."
