Russia Routs Chinese Taipei for Top 12 of Women's Basketball Worlds

Russia will join the United States and Lithuania to enter the top 12 while Chinese Taipei will compete to decide the 13th to 16th positions.
The two teams went scoreless in the first three minutes before Chinese Taipei bursted away with 10 straight points in the next two minutes.
Russian fought strongly in the rest of the first half and turned the tide to lead 18-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The Russia found back their form in the second quarter when then beat their shorter and quicker opponents 25-9 in the next 10 minutes to lead the first half 41-27.
Kalmykova Maria scored 22 points and added 8 rebounds for Russia, who had every player scored with 46 percent. The taller Russian side outrebounded Chinese Taipei team 51-21 and had five blocks.
Cheng Hui-Yin had 10 points and Liu Chun-Yi nine for Chinese Taipei.
"The Chinese Taipei team played very well with better team defense and 3-pointer shots," said Russian head coach Kapranov Vadim, "The only thing they are lack of is height and if they could have some taller centers, they will be very dangerous for anyone in any level's competitions."
