Chinese Women Handballers Vow to Jump to Top Two in Busan Asiad
The Chinese women handball team, which ranked fourth at the 1998 Bangkok Asiad, has vowed to advance to the top two or even claim the title in the upcoming 14th Asian Games to be held in South Korean port city of Busan on September 29-October 14.

The Chinese team grouping some experienced veterans and young players are undertaking intense training in eastern Chinese port city of Qinhuangdao to gear up for beating their arch rival South Korea, the champions at the Bangkok Asiad, Li Gaochao, the assistant to director general of the Multi-ball Games Administrative Center, said Monday.
In a bid to achieve the goal, China last year invited famous South Korean coach Chung Hyong-kyun, who had led the South Korean team to win the silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games,the gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, the title of the 1995 world championships and the runner-up at the 1996 AtlantaOlympic Games, to direct the Chinese women national team.
Chung, 47, nicknamed "handball czar" by South Korean fans, began to coach the Chinese national squad in September 2001, and has been focused his training on the improvement of the strength and stamina of the Chinese players.
"Recently, the Chinese side visited the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Kazakhstan to accumulate experiences in international competitions, " Li Gaochao said.
There are five teams - South Korea, China, Japan, the DPRK and Kazakhstan - registered for competing in the women's handball competitions at the Busan Asian Games. The five will go through round-robin clashes to decide the final winner.
