South Korea's former Prime Minister Lee Han-dong Monday announced his presidential candidacy to presidential elections in December this year.
He announced his decision in a special address at a meeting of the South Korea Journalist Federation, saying that "I would like to announce my decision to run in the 16th presidential election,"according to the South Korean national news agency Yonhap News.
Lee stressed he would use all his 40 years of experience earnedin the public sectors as well as the ability and sense of morality he showed during his term as prime minister, said Yonhap.
He also indicated the possibility of forming his own political party, saying, "If the Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) fails to launch a new 'integrated' party, I am prepared to launch my own party," added Yonhap.
Lee Han-dong quit the MDP when he was appointed to the country's prime minister in 2000, so as to manage the cabinet without any party influence. He was replaced in a cabinet reshuffle this mid-July carried out by South Korean President Kim Dae-jung.
