South Korea is reviewing specific means to support the United States militarily if Washington launches a strike against Iraq, said the South Korean Defense Ministry Monday in Seoul.
Negotiations are currently underway with the United States on security and logistics matters, the ministry was quoted by the country's national news agency Yonhap News as saying.
At the National Assembly defense committee session, the ministry said it will also seek the Assembly's approval to extend the operations of the medical team and the navy and air force transportation units participating in the US anti-terrorism campaign by another year.
South Korea and United States have been military allies since the end of Korea War (1950-1953).
US President George W. Bush warned that the United States is ready to act "militarily" against Iraq without the United Nations (UN) if Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein is not made to honor previous commitments to disarmament and UN weapons inspections in a speech delivered in the UN high-level debate on Sept. 12.
