First Half of S.Korea, DPRK Separated Family Reunions Ends

A group of 455 South Koreans returned from Mount Geumgang in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Sunday to the port of Sokcho, Gangwon Province in South Korea, after reunions with their relatives in the DPRK.

A group of 455 South Koreans returned from Mount Geumgang in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Sunday to the port of Sokcho, Gangwon Province in South Korea, after reunions with their relatives in the DPRK.

The South Koreans bade farewell to their 100 family members in the DPRK separated for about half a century and boarded the cruise liner "Solbong-ho" to return home after three-day reunions, the fifth of its kind since the historic inter-Korean summit meeting in June 2000, said the South Korean national news agency Yonhap News.

The three-day reunions from Friday will be followed by another three-day of six gatherings from next Monday to next Wednesday for99 South Koreans to meet their kin in the DPRK.

The same boat, which brought the 455 South Koreans home, was scheduled to carry a South Korean delegation, including the 99 separated families, to the DPRK early Monday, said Yonhap.

The latest reunions of the separated families of the two countries are main contents of the joint statement released by the seventh inter-Korean ministerial talks held in Seoul on Aug. 12-14.
