Lithuania Upsets Chinese Taipei at Women's Basketball Worlds
Abromait Agne poured in 16 of her team-high 17 points in the first quarter to lead Lithuania to a 92-80 victory over Chinese Taipei in their group C opener of the women's world basketball championship Saturday in Zhangjiagang.

Agne was six for six in the paint while the taller Lithuanians team marked 65 percent from the field by making 11 of their 17 shots to build a comfortable 26-18 first-quarter lead and carried the margin to the interval at 43-35.
Brazeikyte Lina also added 17 and Valuzyte Sandra and Baranauskaite Irena each had 16 points for the winners. Lina also grabbed nine rebounds.
Chien Wei-Chuan and Cheng hui-Yun each scored game-high 19 points to lead the Chinese Taipei side.
"We played well with our speed and long shot but the Lithuanianteam is too big inside the paint and we had no means for the rebounds." said Chang Chuang-Hui,head coach of the Chinese Taipei team.
"It was a hard game for us and every game is a tough competition at this world championship." said Lithuanian center Marcauskaite Iveta, who had 15 points in 22 minutes. TheChinese Taipei forced 22 turnovers on the Lithuanian scores box and they also shot 43 percent from the ace with 9 for 21 while the Lithuanian made two out off their three attempts on the same distance.
Chien Wei-Chuan's 3-pointer started a 16-7 burst for the shorter but quicker Chinese Taipei side which took over the lead at 51-50 with only three minutes into the third quarter.
But the Lithuanian girls answered with strong inside baskets and rebuilt the lead at 71-59 before the final quarter start. The hard fought Chinese Taipei girls used a breathless full-court press to cut the gap at 77-75 but the 1.95-meter tall MarcauskaiteIveta held back the challenge with two straight five-feet jumpers and a steal to lift her team to a 85-79 ahead with one minutes and25 seconds on the clock.
Lithuanians never looked back with free-throws and two more steals before sealing the win at 92-80.
