Seven people, including three mainlanders, have been arrested in connection with a major diamondrobbery in Hong Kong on July 17.
Police in Guangdong confiscated 34 of the stolen diamonds, which are worth 700,000 Hong Kong dollars, said local sources.
Two of the three mainlanders, all from Guangdong Province who were in Hong Kong on tourist documents, are alleged to have attacked two business clerks in a diamond shop of Hong Kong by using iron water pipes and stole a black suitcase containing diamonds worth 3 million Hong Kong dollars.
One suspect ran away with the suitcase and the other was caughtby Hong Kong police as he attempted to escape on a public bus.
Most of the stolen diamonds were later brought by a Hong Kong resident surnamed Dong to Shanghai for reselling.
Police are still hunting for the rest of the diamonds.
