Majority of French Oppose US Military Action Against Iraq: Survey
Sixty-seven percent of the French people oppose "an American military attack on Iraq aimed at toppling the regime of Saddam Hussein," according to the results of a survey released on Wednesday.

Twenty-four percent of the interviewees said they "fully" or "would rather" approve the military action while 9 percent did not answer in the survey conducted by the French polling institute SOFRES.
Every four out of 10 French people said an eventual overthrow of Saddam by the Americans "would relaunch international terrorism" and 38 percent said such an action "changes nothing."
Another 15 percent said a government change in Iraq will help "fight against international terrorism efficiently."
Half of the interviewed described the anti-terrorism policy taken by the United States following the Sept. 11 disaster as "quite inefficient" or "not efficient at all." But 42 percent said it was "quite efficient" or "very efficient."
When asked to list the countries that they find "most seriouslythreaten the world peace," most of the respondents put Iraq (62 percent) before Israel (45 percent), Afghanistan (40 percent), theUnited States (35 percent) and Palestine (31 percent).
