US President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush on Wednesday laid a wreath at Ground Zero, the site of the World Trade Center (WTC), to pay respect to those who lost their lives one year ago.

They arrived minutes after 17:00 pm EST after attending commemorative activities at Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, also scenes of terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. More than 3,000 people died in the tragedy.

The Ground Zero saw the collapse of the 110-story twin towers of WTC and the killing of 2801 people, including 400 plus uniformed rescuers after two hijacked passenger planes hit the landmark of New York.

Bush spent over one hour with members of the families of the victims, people who risked their lives to save others, dignitaries and officials, sharing grief with them and expressing confidence in healing the wounds caused by the terror attacks.

He was to deliver an address to the nation at 21:00 pm EST from Ellis Island near WTC.
