Jiang Zemin Meets Singaporean Lee Kuan Yew
Chinese President Jiang Zemin met in Beijing Tuesday with Lee Kuan Yew, Senior Minister of the Prime Minister's Office of Singapore, to discuss issues including relations between the two countries and regional and international affairs.

Jiang said Sino-Singapore relations have been developing quite well, and China values its relationship with Singapore and hopes the two sides will continuously pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and promote common development.
Jiang noted that the international question of terrorism should be resolved be means of peace and development. He reiterated that China opposes terrorism of any type, advocates more international cooperation and gives the leading role to the United Nations and the UN Security Council. Attention should be paid to curing both the symptoms and root causes and making efforts to reduce poverty and social inequality.
The Chinese president said China has good relations with all ASEAN countries and hopes to develop mutual political trust and economic cooperation, so as to jointly protect regional peace and development.
Lee Kuan Yew said Singapore is willing to keep communication open and reinforce cooperation with China. He said the international situation changes very fast, terrorism has become a severe threat, and it is necessary to work together to be on guardagainst it.
He said China's rapid economic growth provides important opportunity for ASEAN countries, so the two sides should seize the opportunity, step up cooperation and promote common development.
