As the United States has decided to lift its terror warning level from code yellow to orange, President George W. Bush said in Washington Tuesday that his country faced no specific threat.

"We have no specific threat to America, but we're taking everything seriously," Bush told reporters.

He said that his administration would "do everything we can to protect the American people from future attack".

But the alert level was raised in response to specific threat and will take effect sometime Tuesday, according to CNN, quoting officials as saying.

It was the first time that the Bush administration raised its terror alert level since March when the alert system was introduced, as the American people prepared to remember the tragicterror attack on Sept. 11 last year, when hijacked civilian airplanes hit the World Trade Center in New York and Pentagon in Washington, killing several thousand people.

The warning system has five levels, starting with green -- the lowest level -- and followed by blue, yellow, orange and red.
