US is Organizing Terrorist Groups Against Iran: FM
"Iran has documents which show the US is organizing bandits and terrorist groups against the Islamic Republic," Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi told a press conference Sunday in Tehran.
"Iran has documents which show the US is organizing bandits and terrorist groups against the Islamic Republic," Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi told a press conference Sunday in Tehran.
"Washington is supporting the terrorist groups to confront Iran, and at the same time accuses the Islamic Republic of helping the Al-Qaeda terror network. We have been accused of supporting the Al-Qaeda while we had much earlier than the US condemned the terror network," Kharazi said.
Referring to Iran's efforts to defuse tension in Afghanistan, the foreign minister voiced regret that Washington has taken up the "accusatory language" against his country.
"It is regrettable to see that the US has branded Iran as part of the 'axis of evil', while Tehran's efforts and its positive rolein Afghan developments are a point of praise," Kharazi said.
"The international community had never welcomed US branding Iranas part of the 'axis of evil', and Iran never deserves to be juxtaposed with Iraq," he said.
Such US behavior was a token of Washington's insincerity in dealing with world issues, he added, asserting that Iran had playedits share to fight terrorism in Afghanistan by handing over Al-Qaeda suspects to their respective countries.
Kharazi called for evaluating performances of Iran and the United States in their struggles to fight terrorism.
The Iranian foreign minister said the performance of the US government in uprooting terrorism had never been "positive."
He criticized the White House for taking up a bullying approach and resorting to violence after Sept. 11 attacks on US landmarks.
Kharazi also regretted that Washington had been trying to propagate anti-Islamic thoughts in the aftermath of the attacks.
"Undoubtedly, violence and rigid-mindedness must never be answered by the same evils," he said.
"Iran's approach to that effect has always been to identify and address the roots of tension, to manage it, to encourage an international struggle to fight terrorism, and to propagate the idea of dialogue among civilizations and coalition for peace," saidthe foreign minister.
