US, British Warplanes Strike Iraqi Military Airfield near Baghdad

US and British warplanes on Thursday bombed an Iraqi air defense command and control facility west of Baghdad "in response to recent Iraqi hostile acts against coalition aircraft," the US Central Command said in a statement.

US and British warplanes on Thursday bombed an Iraqi air defense command and control facility west of Baghdad "in response to recent Iraqi hostile acts against coalition aircraft," the US Central Command said in a statement.

"Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to strike an air defense command and control facility at a military airfield 240 miles (384 kilometers) west and slightly south of Baghdad," the statement said.

Major Pete Mitchell, a spokesman for the Central Command, said all coalition warplanes returned safely after the attack and "no planes were struck at the airfield."
