A responsible person from the Ministry of Public Health announced at the 3rd Beneficiaries Coordination Conference Fighting HIV/AIDS today that an increased appropriation from an annual 12m to an annual 100m yuan has come to be used to fight AIDS in China.
In 2001, an accumulated 30,736 HIV/AIDS cases in all were nationally reported to a rate of 36.5 percent over 2000 according to the responsible person. Governments at various levels have paid great attention to the work of control and prevention of HIV/AIDS and for doing a good job of this various long-, short-term plans have already been worked out. Meanwhile a leading body representative of 33 central ministries and commissions under the State Council has been specially instituted to that end.
But this does not rule out many difficulties facing China in prevention and control over the spread of HIV/AIDS. There also still remains much to be done in the work of fund raising, spread of education and technology, monitoring and interference and the demand for various international exchanges and cooperative undertakings to be carried out in the fight against HIV/AIDS in China.
